COLUMBUS, Ind.–UPDATE–Authorities at the Columbus Police Department report that, according to officials at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Jessica Hays has passed away from injuries suffered on Wednesday as she walked across State Road 46W and was hit by a vehicle. Wednesday—The Columbus Police Department is investigating a serious accident that occurred on Jonathan Moore Pike (State Road 46W), near Carrie Lane, on Wednesday morning. Lt. Matt Harris, public relations officer with CPD, says that the incident involved a pedestrian who was identified as Jessica Hays, 30, of Columbus.
Harris said the victim and another woman were pushing shopping carts and attempting to cross the busy highway when Hays was struck by a car driven by Jayne Rogan, 72, of Columbus. Hays was transported to Columbus Regional Health before her transfer to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
The crash remains under investigation.
