COLUMBUS, Ind. — On Friday, Bartholomew County Community Corrections director Rob Gaskill reported to that department’s advisory board that REALM (Recovery Enables A Life for Men), a program for moderate-to-high risk offenders diagnosed with an addictive disorder, is fully funded and ready to commence.
A case manager, Robin Winters, has been hired, three candidates for residential-staff positions are being considered, and Centerstone, a counseling and addictions care agency, has provided a clinical coordinator.
Gaskill anticipates that training at the jail will begin in December and that REALM will start taking residents in January. Initially, there will probably be 5 or 6 inmates enrolled in the program for the first couple of weeks, but Gaskill anticipates that they will utilize all of the 15 available beds shortly after that.
REALM is based on WRAP, a similar program for women that recently had its fourteenth graduation.
