BROWNSTOWN, Ind.—Indiana Conservation Officers assisted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) when a small plane crashed in Jackson County early yesterday morning. Officials say that Chad Lowe, 31, of Crossville, Tennessee, was the pilot and he apparently escaped with no injuries.
The 1962 Piper Colt aircraft made impact shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, when a mechanical failure caused the plane to go down in a dense grove of trees in the Jackson-Washington State Forest, near Skyline Drive, just east of Brownstown. Lowe hiked to a nearby residence and sought assistance.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the wreckage. The FAA is investigating the accident.
