COLUMBUS, Ind.–A Bartholomew County man is in custody on drug possession charges after his vehicle was stopped for a violation early Tuesday morning. Public information officer for the Columbus Police Department, Lt. Matt Harris, says at approximately 1:05 a.m., CPD officers pulled over a vehicle near 7th and Sycamore Streets where they spoke with the driver, Joshua Nicholas, 28, of Columbus.
While law enforcement was interviewing him, CPD says a canine alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. Officers searched his car and allegedly found a bag of methamphetamine in the vehicle’s center console. When the suspect was taken into custody, police say they also located a small amount of marijuana in his clothing.
Nicholas was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and charged with possession of cannabis with a previous conviction and possession of methamphetamine.
