INDIANAPOLIS–Indiana State Police (ISP), a founding member and participant in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) since the inception of the multi-state enforcement project in 1977, continued its involvement over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Along with ISP, more than three dozen local and state law enforcement agencies took part in this year’s life-saving enforcement effort.
C.A.R.E. was operational for five days, from November 21 through November 25. Below are Indiana’s results from the most recent project.
- Total Enforcement Stops: 5,673
- Speeding Violations: 1,683
- Seatbelt Violations: 91
- Driving /Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol/OMVI: 51
- CMV Enforcement Stops: 231
- CMV Inspection Stops: 480
- Total Crashes on Interstate and US Highways: 385
- Total Injury Crashes: 41
- Total Fatal Crashes: 1
- Total Fatalities: 1
- Felony Arrests: 79
- Motorist Assists: 1,393
Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) and ‘Motorist Assists’ reflects the number of times motorists were assisted by state police officers while roadside. Examples of the type of assistance provided would include help with directions, changing a flat tire, calling a tow truck, obtaining fuel, etc.
