GREENSBURG, Ind.–Indiana State Police (ISP) responded to a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on eastbound Interstate 74 near the 128-mile marker. The accident claimed the life of a Decatur County man.
The initial investigation by the ISP Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team indicated that a 2001 Jeep Wrangler driven by Rickie Meece, 58, of Greensburg, was traveling eastbound on I-74 when the vehicle left the south side of the expressway and struck a guardrail. After hitting the guardrail, the Jeep rolled multiple times before coming to a stop at the side of the roadway. Meece was pronounced dead at the scene by the Decatur County Coroner’s Office.
Evidence indicates that the victim was not properly restrained at the time of the crash. The interstate surface was partially covered in snow.
The investigation is ongoing.
