COLUMBUS, Ind. – At a hearing with city assistant planning director Melissa Begley, Centra Credit Union was granted approval of its request for a zoning variance allowing it to add an additional 7.5 feet to the elevation of its soon-to-be-built headquarters on Tupelo Drive. Hearings with one officer, as opposed to the entire Board of Zoning Appeals, are convened when all criteria for granting a variance have been met.
The project’s architect, Emily DeSmit of RATIO Architects, says that the reason for the variance is some restrictions on the site, notably that floor-to-floor dimensions in commercial buildings are greater than in the past, and the fact that the building will be situated at a lower elevation than neighboring structures.
Centra Credit Union anticipates occupying the building around the end of next March. Force Construction is the contractor for the project.
