COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Bartholomew County man, who was connected to a case involving a woman reported missing, was arrested after a short standoff at a Bartholomew County mobile home park on Wednesday afternoon. Investigators from the Columbus Police Department (CPD) had been searching for Stephanie Hudak and her boyfriend, Steven “Bobby” Burton, 41, of Columbus, and asked for the public’s assistance in locating them due to concerns of the nature of her disappearance.
A Silver Alert was issued in an attempt to locate Hudak who was last seen by her family on Tuesday night. CPD followed up on a tip from the public on Wednesday afternoon and located Hudak at a mobile home in the 10000 block of Legal Tender Road. She was unijured.
Officers determined that Burton was also inside the mobile home, but say he initially refused to surrender. A search warrant was obtained and law enforcement utilized police K-9, Bane, to enter the residence. Burton was found hiding under a mattress inside a bedroom. He was arrested without further incident and remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on a Bartholomew County Warrant and an Indiana Parole Warrant.
The incident remains under investigation.
