COLUMBUS, Ind. – A local man was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he reportedly struck a median and crashed into a road sign on 17th Street. Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers responded to a report of a driver traveling the wrong way on 17th Street near Orinoco Avenue around 5:10 a.m. A short time later, the suspect apparently struck the median and road signs in the middle of the street.
Officers located the car near 21st and Newton Streets where they spoke to the driver, Korbin N. Lopotosky, 21, of Columbus. After Lopotosky exited the vehicle, the officers say they thought his speech was slurred and he seemed to difficulty maintaining his balance. After failing several field sobriety tests, he was transported to the CPD headquarters where he provided a breath sample of 0.174%, more than twice the legal limit.
Lopotosky was placed under arrest on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
