COLUMBUS, Ind. – UPDATE: Upon further investigation of the man who was possibly carrying a firearm in the vicinity of the school on Wednesday, CPD officers located the man in question and determined he did not have a weapon. It was determined that Southside Elementary School no longer needed to be in a lock down situation.
Original: Columbus Police Officers (CPD) are investigating a report of a man who was reportedly walking with a firearm near Southside School. Officers have located and are speaking with the man at this time, and no injuries were reported.
The school is currently in “Lock Down Mode” which means exterior doors are locked with normal class operations inside. Students who were outside for recess were brought back into school by teachers at the request of law enforcement.
