COLUMBUS, Ind. – Several area residents turned out for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) open house at Columbus East High School on Wednesday evening. Local transportation agencies and INDOT distributed literature about bike paths, roundabouts, and the 2020-2024 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
INDOT was garnering public input since the comment period for the STIP ends this Friday. The plan has to be sent to the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration by June 1.
State Representative Ryan Lauer, of Columbus, noted the strong confluence of state highways locally, the importance of the Columbus Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) working closely with INDOT, and Indiana’s proactive approach to transportation planning. “Indiana is, I believe, the only state with a 20-year plan that’s already funded,” he noted.
