COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) apprehended a local man Tuesday morning after he allegedly punched an officer in the face in an effort to evade arrest.
CPD stopped a man riding a bicycle without proper lighting on Indiana Avenue near South Beatty Street. He was identified as Steven Richcreek, 27, of Columbus, and it was confirmed that he had two local warrants for his arrest.
When the officer attempted to arrest Richcreek, police say the suspect created a scuffle and punched the officer in the face before attempting to flee on foot. He was later tackled and secured in handcuffs. During a search, CPD says synthetic marijuana was found in his possession.
Richcreek was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, possession of a look-a-like drug, two Bartholomew County warrants, and battery on a police officer.
