COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County is experiencing an outbreak of Hepatitis A, a highly contagious liver infection caused by the Hepatitis A virus.
Residents who may be noticing any symptoms should see a medical provider as soon as possible. If you suspect you may have the virus, you should not prepare or serve food to others. Hepatitis A can be prevented by getting the vaccine and thoroughly washing yours hands several times per day.
Residents may contact the Bartholomew County Health Department to schedule an inoculation or attend the vaccination clinic being held on June 24 and 28, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Love Chapel Food Pantry.
“Currently, there are over 1,500 cases in Indiana, and Bartholomew County is approaching 50 on the year,” said Amanda Organist, the Bartholomew County Health Department’s Director of Nursing.
