WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) has announced that his Tobacco to 21 Act passed Committee, and is closer to becoming law. The Act would prohibit the sale of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, to anyone under the age of 21.
A big concern is the increased use of electronic cigarettes among high school and middle school students. Young, along with Senators on both sides of the isle, are hoping that this leads to a decrease in tobacco use for those under the age of 21.
“Roughly 95 percent of adult smokers began smoking before the age of 21, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that smoking-related illness in the United States costs more than $300 billion a year.” said Young.
