INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana StateDepartment of Health (ISDH) officials have confirmed the presence of West Nile virus in mosquitoes in two counties and are urging Hoosiers to take steps to protect themselves from the insects and the diseases they can carry.
As of July 1, mosquitoes in Elkhart and Clark counties have tested positive for West Nile. Despite no human cases reported of the disease so far in 2019, ISDH expects to see increased West Nile activity throughout Indiana as summer progresses. Health authorities recommend to apply an EPA-regulated insect repellent, along with other precautions such as avoiding being outdoors when mosquitoes are active.
The latest results of the ISDH’s mosquito surveillance can be found here.
