COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Animal Care Commission handled a variety of business at its Monday evening meeting, including several ordinances that will be presented to Columbus City Council in August.
Animal Care Services general manager Nicohl Birdwell Goodin reported on the city’s ordinance review committee and the changes to a number of animal-related ordinances. The committee has increased specificity for such considerations as temperature extremes that require pet owners to bring pets indoors and the time frame for holding animals.
A concerned citizen, Kate Chisholm, provided her research pertaining to the control of dangerous animals. She found that other municipalities have higher fines than Columbus for attack instances, as well as tighter muzzling regulations.
In other business, the commission heard about the current state of the foster home program at Animal Care Services, the Moonlight Loop bicycle-ride fundraiser, and a report on the upcoming visit by the Bacon Group, a design consultant selected to oversee the upgrading of the agency’s facility.
