COLUMBUS, Ind. – At its Tuesday evening meeting, Columbus City Council approved on second reading, an ordinance that amends Chapter 10 of the city code covering vehicles and traffic. The ordinance now allows pedal cab businesses to operate within the city. They are required to pay a $200 annual registration, follow predetermined routes, and comply with liability requirements.
Council decided that commercial scooters will continue to be prohibited until such time as it can determine an arrangement that ensures public safety. Councilmember Frank Miller said that the next step in that regard is for city attorney Alan Whitted to research how scooters have been addressed in municipalities in the area and beyond.
Councilmember David Bush commented that feedback from his constituents indicates strong approval for not moving forward on commercial scooters in Columbus at this time.
