COLUMBUS, Ind. – The city of Columbus celebrated its newest sister city relationship by welcoming officials from Pune, India, on Thursday. The 16-member delegation was led by Mayor Mukta Tilak, her first visit to Columbus since she and Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop signed a Memorandum of Understanding last fall in Pune.
The mayors want to focus on promoting cultural, business, education, and governmental exchanges. Lienhoop said, “This new bond between our cities will not only allow us to learn from each other but also speaks to the importance of the Indian community in Columbus and the contributions they make to our city.”
Pune is the ninth-largest city in the country, with an estimated population of more than 3.37 million people. Both cities share a significant presence by Cummins, along with other Indian firms with local operations.
