COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested Brett Hamm, 24, of Columbus, on several charges after they say he was causing a disturbance at a Columbus park Tuesday evening.
Police were dispatched to 9th Street Park in regards to an unconscious person on a park bench. After officers arrived, they along with paramedics, rendered aid to the unconscious woman.
While at the park, officers spoke with Hamm, who appeared to be intoxicated. They say they were able to determine that he had provided alcohol to the unconscious 20-year-old woman. Hamm was handcuffed but was somehow able to get his hands free, in front of his body. While CPD was handcuffing him a second time, he allegedly punched an officer in the face. Once he was finally restrained, the suspect was taken to Columbus Regional Health for medical clearance.
After being discharged from the hospital, Hamm was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, furnishing alcohol to a minor causing serious bodily injury, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication.
The officer who was punched did not sustain injuries during the incident.
