COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested a Bartholomew County man on several felony charges early Wednesday morning after officers say he tried to run on foot from them during a traffic stop.
Authorities say police attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, near 17th and Chestnut Streets, around 1:20 a.m. A short time later, the driver, identified as Kurtis Gregory, 32, of Columbus, abruptly stopped his vehicle and allegedly began running on foot from law enforcement.
According to CPD, a canine responded and located Gregory behind a residence in the 1600 block of Chestnut Street. Officers also say they found a syringe along with methamphetamine and heroin near where the suspect was located.
Gregory was arrested and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of heroin, possession of meth, possession of a legend drug injection device, and resisting law enforcement.
