NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) on Tuesday afternoon detained and charged a group of students who left Jennings County High School without permission from school officials or without having a parent/guardian sign them out.
Police say that the situation started when a small group of students was staging a demonstration inside the school. They then moved to the sidewalk just outside of the building. NVPD was asked to intervene when students began leaving the school grounds without permission.
Nine students were located, detained, and brought to the police department by officers. The students were charged and released to a parent or guardian. It was determined that all nine of the students had not received proper permission to leave the school by school staff and had not been signed out by a parent or guardian, per school policy.
