COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus City Council met Tuesday evening and approved a number of changes to the city’s zoning ordinance that was enacted in 2008.
City planning director Jeff Bergman told the council the changes fell into four categories: those clarifying existing regulations, those responding to new state legislation or case law, those addressing issues from variance requests, and accumulated typos and incorrect cross-references.
In other business, the first reading of the 2020 proposed city budget of $63,493,800 was approved. Salaries and benefits for employees comprised the biggest proportion of the expenditures.
The council also okayed moving money from a Columbus Police Department non-reverting fund to a Columbus Fire Department non-reverting fund to enable the police department to use the new public safety training facility on the city’s north side.
