COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Robert Stewart Bridge continues to glow red through the end of this weekend in honor of fallen firefighters. The city of Columbus and the Columbus Fire Department are participating in the “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” national event which began in 2017. Communities are asked to illuminate landmarks in red to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty.
When you see the bridge leading into downtown Columbus all lit up in red, think of the fallen firefighters and their families. Although there has never been a Columbus firefighter lost in service to the community, CFD and Columbus are proud to honor heroes all over the country.
“When a member of the fire service makes the ultimate sacrifice in a community hundreds of miles from Columbus, we feel the loss here at home. The Light the Night program illustrates our respectful connection with the communities and fire departments who’ve suffered a loss,” said Fire Chief Andy Lay.
