COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Council met Tuesday evening and passed, on their second readings, the overall county 2020 budget, as well as the county’s financial plan for the Solid Waste Management District. The votes in each case were 7-0.
The overall county budget totaled $51,595,896. As a part of that allocation, the council also passed the salary ordinance. The Solid Waste Management District budget totaled $3,459,929.
In other business, the council approved tax abatements for two local companies. Peer Foods received a 10-year phase-in for a facility it intends to build and a five-year tax reduction for new equipment. The company estimates the expansion will generate 11 new jobs with an average wage of $17.13 per hour. George Utz, Inc. pledges to retain 87 positions and create 14 new jobs with its tax abatement.
