COLUMBUS, Ind. – Rick Johnson, chair of the Envision Columbus steering committee, distributed book-version copies of the initiative’s plan to members of the Columbus Redevelopment Commission on Thursday afternoon. He spoke of the importance of establishing numbers of people gathering downtown that would constitute a critical mass, upon which planners could pursue future projects that would bring in even more people.
In other business, city engineer Dave Hayward said that the lowest bid for work on the State Road 46 overpass project was Milestone Contractors, with Force Construction coming in close behind. The total investment in the project is approximately $32,500,000 and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
Also, the riverfront project’s coordinators are expecting to conclude the Indiana Department of Natural Resources review process by late April of next year, and according to redevelopment director Heather Pope, “start turning dirt by next October.”
