WHITELAND, Ind. – The Johnson County 911 Center received a call on Sunday around 5:30 p.m. about a possible small aircraft going down in a cornfield northeast of Interstate 65 and Whiteland Road. Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies responded along with officers from the Whiteland and New Whiteland Police Departments. Fire Departments from Whiteland, New Whiteland, and Bargersville were also on standby, as is protocol.
Upon the arrival of law enforcement, it quickly became clear that the aircraft was a small ultralight type vehicle. The pilot told deputies he had mechanical difficulties and had a rough landing in the cornfield.
The pilot required no medical attention or other assistance. Sheriff’s deputies contacted FAA officials but were told because it was an ultralight and there were no injuries, they would not need to investigate.
