
COLUMBUS, Ind. – UPDATE: Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers arrested a local man Monday evening who is suspected of being the driver of the sport utility vehicle that struck and killed bicyclist, Kyla Ortlieb, at 11th and Chestnut Streets in Columbus, on Sunday night. CPD arrested Eric Winship, 27, of Columbus, after he was located at a residence in northern Bartholomew County.
Winship was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was preliminarily charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, and possession of a legend drug injection device.
“We would like to thank the public for a large number of calls, tips, and information we have received in this case,” said CPD Detective Lt. Jay Frederick.
Original: The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is seeking information from the public in regards to a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist late Sunday evening. Officers were dispatched at around 11:15 p.m., to the area of 11th and Chestnut Streets after receiving several 911 calls about the crash.
Police found an abandoned, heavily-damaged GMC Jimmy nearby in the middle of the 1200 block of Union Street.
Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash to contact CPD at 812-376-2600. Tips and information may be provided anonymously.
