COLUMBUS, Ind. – Our Hospice of South Central Indiana recently hosted another full-day bereavement camp for children. Camp Eva, an annual event that provides a structured and supportive environment for children to openly share their feelings and memories of their loved one, welcomed 28 children and five parents.
Kids were able to engage in fun activities that included a challenge course, archery, pamper pole climbing, and painting. Child grief-support volunteers helped guide each activity, relating it to grief and coping.
Our Hospice strongly believes that it is important for children to have safe opportunities to process their grief. “Children need to talk about it,” said Jessica Curd, Social Worker at Our Hospice. “Sometimes, they don’t know how to bring it up. They might have bursts of emotions, difficulty sleeping, or changes in eating habits.”
Camp Eva was started by Melissa Clark in 2016.
