COLUMBUS, Ind. – After a recount was conducted, Bartholomew County Clerk Jay Phelps tells Local News Digital that Democrat Jerone Wood has officially won the race for the District 1 seat for Columbus City Council over Republican Dascal Bunch.
On election night when the votes were counted, Wood had won the race by the narrowest of margins, one vote. The tally was 260 to 259 in the favor of Wood. As expected, Bunch filed for a recount on November 15 and the results of that recount were made public on Friday at 11:45 a.m. Results from election night were found to be unchanged, and Wood was officially declared the victor.
The race proved pivotal because with vote totals now confirmed, Democrats hold the Columbus City Council majority with four of the seven seats.
