COLUMBUS, Ind. – A local woman who was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of her car at a Columbus intersection on Friday morning was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to Gladstone Avenue and State Street around 8:30 a.m. in regards to a woman passed out behind the steering wheel of a locked car.
When they arrived, police used a lockout kit to unlock the vehicle where they administered aid to the woman who had a faint pulse. She was given Narcan by paramedics and awoke a short time later. The driver was later identified as Maria Garcia, of Columbus.
The subject was taken to Columbus Regional Health and submitted a blood draw. Garcia was later placed under arrest by CPD and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where she was remanded on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
