COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Human Rights Commission heard Wednesday from commissioners Gil Palmer and Greg Lewis about the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation’s Teaching Tolerance conference they attended on December 4.
The pair spoke of the conceptual model that informed the day’s proceedings: a mirror, to symbolize how a student sees himself or herself in the curriculum; a window, to symbolize the view onto the outer world; and a sliding glass door, to symbolize shifting perspectives.
The Teaching Tolerance program was established in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center. It provides free resources to educators of students from kindergarten through high school.
