WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday night, making him the third President in American history to suffer that fate. Trump was impeached after being charged for abusing the power of his office by enlisting a foreign government to investigate a political rival ahead of the 2020 election, plus a second charge of obstructing Congress in its investigation.
Locally, U.S. Congressman Greg Pence released a statement Wednesday on the impeachment saying, “Democrats and their allies in the fake news media have been trying to impeach President Trump since the day he took office. The American people deserve a congress focused on them, not Democrats trying to undo the 2016 election.”
President Trump also took to twitter to respond to the House’s decision.

Articles of impeachment will now move from the House to the Senate for trial.
