SEYMOUR, Ind. – After the incident last Thursday, in which one man was stabbed by another, further details have been uncovered about the actions of Seymour Police Department (SPD) officer Tim Toborg during the event.
Officer Toborg was first on the scene and observed Henry Stamper bleeding profusely from the neck, a direct result of a knife attack. A family member was tending to him. Toborg retrieved his Combat Gauze, a medical product developed for military use that has a powdered clotting agent. He had purchased the product himself. Although Seymour officers are equipped with standard dressings and tourniquets, many further supplement their medical kits with other lifesaving materials.
The Seymour police officer then packed the wound around Stamper’s neck with the Combat Gauze and applied localized pressure to successfully stint the flow of blood until EMS personnel arrived.
Medical personnel later stated that due to the amount of blood lost by the victim and the severity of his injuries, the actions of officer Toborg most likely saved his life. At this time, Stamper continues to make strides in his recovery process.
For his quick thinking, preparedness, and lifesaving first-aid, SPD commended officer Toborg on a job well done. Toborg has been overwhelmed with the response to his actions and says he would also like to recognize Ashley Goff, who was caring for the victim before his arrival.
Jesse Stover was arrested and charged with attempted murder. The investigation remains active.
