COLUMBUS, Ind. – In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) has established a number of practices to address the situation in Bartholomew County. The changes have reportedly been made to reduce the risk of exposure in order to protect employees and the public.
Officers will still respond to major case investigations. For minor cases, CPD is encouraging members of the public to make reports over the phone. Police may ask residents to step outside their homes to conduct investigations in the open air and avoid unnecessary physical contact, such as handshakes. The Columbus Police Department is also suspending fingerprinting services until further notice.
CPD does remind that their department is still in full operation, and officers are making responsible decisions in consultation with their supervisors.
