INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Thursday that he will be working together with other midwest governors to reopen the economy in their areas. Holcomb, along with Gretchen Whitmer (MI), Mike DeWine (OH), Tony Evers (WI), Tim Walz (MN), JB Pritzker (IL), and Andy Beshear (KY) are all coordinating to decide the best way to reopen the economy as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact business across the country.
“We are doing everything we can to protect the people of our states and slow the spread of COVID-19, and we are eager to work together to mitigate the economic crisis this virus has caused. We recognize that our economies are all reliant on each other, and we must work together to safely reopen them so people can get back to work and businesses can get back on their feet,” said the governors.
The group says the four factors determining the best time to reopen are sustained control of the rate of new infections and hospitalizations, enhanced ability to test and trace, sufficient health care capacity to handle a possible resurgence, and the best practices for social distancing in the workplace.
Indiana confirms nearly 10,000 positive Coronavirus cases. The state has been under a stay-at-home order for a month. Gov. Holcomb is looking to early May as the timetable to reopening the economy.
