COLUMBUS, Ind. – A local man was arrested early Saturday morning after he reportedly broke into a parked vehicle in downtown Columbus. The Columbus Police Department (CPD) was conducting an extra patrol in the 400 block of Third Street, at around 5:20 a.m., when a truck was found in a parking lot with the trunk open. An officer also observed a man on a bicycle leaving the area.
Law enforcement located the owner of the vehicle and it was determined that a camera was stolen from the truck. A short time later, police found the bicyclist, who was identified as Ryan Melloh, 31, of Columbus. CPD says the missing camera was found in the suspect’s backpack and he was placed under arrest. Police also allegedly found methamphetamine in his clothing.
Melloh was jailed and is facing preliminary charges of theft and possession of meth.
