COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) arrested an Illinois man on multiple charges after a brief standoff on Monday. CPD went to the 1300 block of Central Avenue, around 5 p.m., on a domestic violence call regarding a suspect with a gun inside the home holding several occupants, including children, against their will.
Officers tried to make contact with the alleged hostages but were unsuccessful. Police say they were preparing to activate SWAT personnel when Daquan Barfield, 25, of Chicago, exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. Law enforcement then entered the home and reportedly found four young children.
Barfield was taken into custody and booked at Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm, strangulation, and domestic battery.
