COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) responded to the scene of a motorcycle accident on Wednesday afternoon and found an injured male subject laying in the roadway with his full-face helmet still on. Fire department personnel were attending to the victim when deputies arrived.
Witnesses told law enforcement that a group of riders was traveling on County Road 200N when the driver of the lead motorcycle, Lee Watts, 36, of Columbus, had slowed to turn onto County Road 1140E to ride to Anderson Falls. The following motorcyclist failed to see him slowing and hit the rear of his bike. Watts was propelled into the air and landed on his side.
The driver of the second motorcycle, James Fox, 34, of Columbus, was dropped from his bike after running into Watts. Fox was flown to an Indianapolis hospital and his condition is unknown.
Authorities at BCSO say all riders were wearing helmets and protective leather racing jackets.
