INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced on Wednesday a $140,000 grant to the city of Columbus as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The award is in addition to the $2.3 million in CARES Act funding the city previously received two weeks ago.
Officials will use the funds to support the operating expenses of the ColumBUS fixed-route bus system and Call-a-Bus paratransit service, including safety modifications and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
“Many of our nation’s public transportation systems are facing extraordinary challenges and these funds go a long way to assisting in battling COVID-19,” said the FTA’s K. Jane Williams. “These federal funds support operating assistance to transit agencies providing essential travel and supporting transit workers across the country who are unable to work because of the public health emergency.”
