COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) announced Friday that it will push back the first student day of school to Monday, August 10.
The delay means Thursday and Friday, August 6 and 7 will be used for additional staff readiness for the reopening of school, including preparing for all three enrollment options. BCSC also says time will be devoted to further developing its eLearning program in case the district moves to a full virtual option due to the COVID-19 spread.
“In order to reopen safely for all and offer the best educational experience for students, BCSC felt it was imperative to provide families with choices,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts.
Roberts also says that the school system will be continually updating its COVID-19 metrics, consulting with Columbus Regional Health and the Bartholomew County Health Department, and reviewing data from surrounding counties. The August 6 and 7 school days will have to be made up at some point.
