COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) has announced the cancellation of this year’s 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Columbus City Hall. As an alternative, CFD will produce a video tribute that will be shared on the fire department’s social media pages and the city of Columbus website, starting September 11.
“An incredibly difficult decision has been reached to cancel this year’s 9/11 ceremony due to the pandemic risk to public health. In the interest of public safety, we believe this is the right decision,” said CFD Chief Andy Lay.
This year marks the 19th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States of America. The Columbus Fire Department hopes to resume the traditional ceremony in 2021.
