COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus City Council met Tuesday evening and approved a resolution to authorize the Redevelopment Commission to spend just over $500,000 for the property at 555 First Street.
The purchase results from a land swap agreed to by the city and county in which the city would take ownership from the county of the block between Second and Third Streets, and Franklin Street and Lafayette Avenue. The city would assist the county with the construction of the new Court Services building south of the Bartholomew County Jail. The block to be owned by the city is a possible site of a hotel, conference center, and urban grocery.
In other business, the council elected Elaine Hilber as president pro tempore. It also granted tax abatements to Applied Laboratories and Rightway Fasteners.
