COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus City Council met Tuesday evening and established a city parking commission consisting of eight members: the city engineer, a police department representative, a Visitors Center representative, a Redevelopment Commission member, a downtown merchant, a downtown resident, an at-large council member, and a city council member.
The commission will meet quarterly and make recommendations to the Columbus Board of Works.
Executive Director of Administration Mary Ferdon acknowledged, “there are pros and cons to setting up another commission,” but adequate parking is essential to a viable future for downtown.
For the purposes of parking discussions, downtown is defined by Brown, Sycamore, Seventh, and First Streets as its borders.
