COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District recently received a Community Recycling Grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to purchase a new compactor for use at Bartholomew County Landfill. It has been installed and is now open for operation.
County residents can recycle plastic bottles and jugs marked with a #1 or #2 recycling symbol in the new compactor. Styrofoam, plastic bags, and other plastics should not be put in the compactor as they would contaminate the entire load. Only #1 and #2 plastic will be accepted for recycling.
Steel and aluminum cans, plus glass bottles and jars with lids removed, can also go in the compactor for recycling. All recyclables should be empty, clean, and loose. Do not put bagged recyclables or cardboard boxes in the compactor. There are separate bins for cardboard and mixed paper.
