GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and White River Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 1600 block of South Paddock Road, in Greenwood, on Thursday, just after 7 p.m. Callers told law enforcement the car had struck a tree head-on.
Deputies found two people in the vehicle, both of whom had to be extricated by firefighters.
The driver, identified as Hunter Riffle, 16, of Greenwood, was taken to an Indianapolis hospital and was listed in critical condition. The passenger, Austin Norris, of Greenwood was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told deputies that the car was traveling south on Paddock Road at a high rate of speed. The accident investigation is continuing.
