COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sheriff Matt Myers announced Tuesday that there will soon be a change in the mail policy for inmates at Bartholomew County Jail (BCJ) as the facility will be switching to electronic mail.
Starting December 6, mail to inmates will go electronic with Earth Class Mail. The only exception will be that legal mail from attorneys will remain the same.
Earth Class Mail is a Texas-based company that receives your postal mail, scans it, and then delivers it to the designated inbox in the form of a PDF.
Inmates will have one month to inform their families and friends of the change. During the month of December, incoming mail to the jail will be received, however, starting January 3, 2022, all mail will be digital and BCJ will not accept any incoming mail.
Items such as books, magazines, and junk mail are considered trash and not shipped. If Earth Class Mail cannot determine the facility a piece of mail should be routed to, it is returned to the sender.
Mail should be addressed to the inmate as follows:
