FRANKLIN, Ind. – Franklin College broke ground on the construction of the Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) Athletic Annex on campus last Wednesday, October 13, at the southwest corner of Park Avenue and Second Street. Guests were able to witness the historic event and view schematics of the 10,819 square-foot building that should be completed in late fall 2022.
Last December, the college announced a $1 million commitment from JMH to construct the indoor multi-use facility. This August, Indiana University football coach Tom Allen made a gift commitment to construct a weight room in the complex in honor of his father, Tom Allen, Sr., a 1961 alumnus of the college.
“The significance of the Johnson Memorial Health Athletic Annex cannot be overstated,” said Franklin College President Kerry Prather. “It will be the first new indoor athletic facility constructed on campus since Spurlock Center was built in 1975.”
