COLUMBUS, Ind. – A burglary suspect was taken into custody when she was apparently caught in the act of the theft. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 5100 block of North County Road 200W on Thursday regarding a burglary in progress.
The victim reported that a female approached her house, removed her doorbell, cut wires on a camera, and damaged the back door. Deputies located the suspect, Crystal Shaw, 39, of Flatrock, in her pickup truck as she was leaving the home with the alleged stolen property.
She was arrested without incident, jailed, and booked for burglary, criminal mischief, possession of drug-related paraphernalia, and an outstanding warrant.
Sheriff Matt Myers explained that most burglaries do not occur at night as thieves do not want to risk encountering someone. They steal when you’re most likely at work. He added, “If you see something, say something. In this case, we received a call and deputies were able to apprehend the suspect.”
