COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Johnson County woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after fleeing from a traffic stop on Friday night. The Columbus Police Department (CPD) pulled over a vehicle near 25th Street and Beam Road at 10:50 p.m., after the driver, Cathy Nance, 65, of Franklin, struck a curb with her car.
The officers approached the woman’s vehicle and attempted to speak to her, however, they say she ignored them and drove off. CPD pursued the suspect a short distance and observed her turning onto Marr Road from 25th Street. She then reportedly drove south in the northbound lanes before stopping her vehicle.
While she was being taken into custody, police say they noted a strong smell of alcohol on her breath. She allegedly provided a portable breath sample of .198% and was taken to Columbus Regional Health where a blood alcohol test was conducted.
Nance was later transferred to Bartholomew County Jail where she was remanded on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
