COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office tried to pull over an SUV on northbound I-65, near the 76 mile-marker, on Tuesday at around 3:30 a.m. The occupants, who were wanted in a Nashville, Tennessee armed robbery, accelerated and took off.
Before the unsuccessful traffic stop, the chase had started on I-65 at about the 72-mile marker. From exit 76, the car went south on US 31 to Lowell Road, then north on US 31, and finally back onto I-65 north. The car crashed around mile marker 80. Two males reportedly fled the vehicle.
One of the suspects, a 16-year-old juvenile, was located two hours later at a residence on State Road 252. He was treated at Columbus Regional Health.
Officers from multiple agencies, along with help from two drones and two K9s, attempted to locate the second offender but were unsuccessful. A short time later, deputies were dispatched to a vehicle theft at the Waffle House in Taylorsville. The male who stole the car, a white 2016 Kia Sportage, is believed to be the same suspect on the loose from the pursuit.
Law enforcement is looking for a black male suspect wearing a black shirt, jeans, and a grey toboggan.
